"The Skirted Mans" Interesting 3rd Party Advocates for Male Equality

This section is about men generally, perceptions of, masculinity, gender etc within society. All links are to third party sites which I come across in my casual searching and interest on mens equality even if they do not apply directly to me in my life. As I say right at the start on my front page to this site I am Egalitarian. This page has been on my site since 19th December 2015.

My Introduction: Male Equality

As a man I do feel very strongly with societies attitude towards the label of male gender in this modern era with regards discrimination, inequality etc certainly since around the year 2000. Gender is a society label of expectation. Sex defines man or woman. Past attitudes towards women, still to this day in certain quarters, certainly needed changing from the past and I have always been brought up as such and my parents have always behaved as such. My parents are early 1940's, I am early 1960's. I do not agree with labelling of men generally these days, even all men as some state, with the behaviour of men from the past and because in certain quarters some men still live in the past. Remember, society had strict expectations on both males and females with attitudes and expectations as too their respective standings and behaviour within society. Items now and in the past such as domestic abuse, rape, murders, mostly mens traits but also a fair few womens and increasingly so in this modern era are a no, no, for me both then and now but we are dealing with humans, its nature. Society may have changed dramatically as the millenia pass but human nature of greed, power, dominance, pursuit of wealth and position at what ever cost to others certainly hasn't.

As a man I feel very strongly that the discussions which affect men as well as women are not inclusive of men. These include access to children, divorce rights, domestic violence, sexual crimes, employment rights, trafficking etc and are not shown equal consideration for all even if men have a smaller proportion as victims in these areas. For every 3 cases of Domestic Violence one will be targetted at men. This ratio applies to stalking. Homelessness and suicides are clearly male dominanted as regards victims and genitle mutilation affects both women and men. Even as at 2017 mens advocates for male equality reports on issues that affect both men and women that men are airbrush out and in January 2017 same observations were raised after official statistics on homelessness reported by the BBC had a category for females, under 25, from EU countries and Non EU countries with no mens category which equates to 88% of all homelessness. With male genitle mutilation at times it is required but the vast majority of it is purely cultural and religous and not necessary. Even the UK NHS states it is not a requirement unless a medical condition states otherwise. Likewise certain medical conditions that are either all male or mostly male do not seem to get the same degree of attention as all or mostly womens. Sexual crimes against boys, mostly from men does not get the same level of discussion as for girls yet boys are the larger victims. Kidnapping of girls in other countries by terrorists are highlighted far more than boys kidnapping. Many boys freely join, but a lot of boys are brasin washed and forced to become young fighters by these terroist groups but not mentioned in discussions. Plights of victims in war torn countries are of women and children, yet many men are victims and not part of the wars. Allowances are now called for for more understanding of female perpatrators of crime, even questioning if female perpatrators should go to prison as it affects theirs and their childrens lives but  not for men. Discussions take place for female children suffering due to poverty and lack of opportuinities yet boys have the same disadvantages in same families, in fact society makes boys and increasing more so in modern society, girls as well, to become disenfranchised and turn to crime and gangs. Drunken behaviour and incorrect driving for men is always highlighted but suppressed with regards women within the media and society chatter on such subjects. Misbehaving boys at school are always treated negatively yet similar girls are referred to as being playful, expressing themselves and very little is discussed as to why since the 1990's boys have under performed girls educationally but plenty is discussed about girl education. More investment in female health compared to mens, I understand for every £1 for men £8 is on women. HPV vaccination provide for girls as a deterrent against some cancers but for boys it is considered not worth while. Male dominated areas of work and social activities are opened for both sexes and questioned yet not so for womens eg education, especially primary and nursery are female dominated, as to nursing to name but two. No major drive is raised to question this for men. I mention elsewhere on this site about the Scout movement since 1974 has to be for boys and girls yet we have a Guide movement still for girls only. Male same sex partnerships are often questioned by society but female same sex partnerships are not to the same extent. We hear about the plights of female sex workers but 50% of that business are male and suffer the same issues. This area has recently in 2018 started to have been raised by male sex workers. #Metoo hastag on social media has also started to make men speak out as it is always questioned about men flirting or making unwanted advances yet many women do the same but that is acceptable. Why?

I am also noting as time goes by society, media, education, are promoting women, their issues yet either ignore mens or make a token gesture. Men and boys on the whole these days are labelled very negativily as a whole to a point it makes many come to the conclusion all men are not good for society and be avoided, yet women on the whole have a pedastol status. There is a hashtag on Twitter #KillAllMen. Not all men behave correctly in society but many of the negative behaviours attached to them are done by many, many women. I accept certain areas of criminality men are the main perpatrators, but most victims of crime in the UK are men and many issues suffered by women are also suffered by many men. Yes mysogyny exists but there is plenty of misandry both in the real world and on social media but rarely mentionerd for men. I recently read a report that more male MP's, especially Conservative MP's get more hate male than female MP's cross parties.

An interersting read. Cases of sex abuse by women rocket as boys begin to come forward and report them.

I recently read an article bout a survey on womens attitudes towards free speech based in America and the title of the article "From Suffragette to Suppression - Women now Lead in Anti-Speech Sentiment"With regards my stance on men in skirts and invading the female wardrobe, it is mostly women who openly make negative overtones and those women mostly embrace their freedom of choice and expression without hindrance. The other women who make negative overtones may be stereotypically dressed as women use to be but never question other women who appear like men or wear mens style of clothing now available to them under the label womenswear. Yes some men do the same towards me but never as direct and momentarily. As I say elsewhere on this site, it is only a minority, the vast majority let life go by even if they do not agree.

We are all human beings, all suffer from the same emotions, feelings, sentiments and perceptions, even those who choose to deny it or brought up not to show their emotions, mostly men. Many women now have a hard appearance and keen not to show emotion. It seems society has convinced itself that to suceed, to be normal, to be accepted, you must demonstrate characteristics and appearance that the male gender have been expected to have.

This link to the web site "The Society to establish a Minister for Men" sums it up very well. As an individual I can only support "locally" male equality. I do so especially within my own personal life and do add to one sided statements about female inequality facts about lack of mens equality and sufferings. For example The Representation of Peoples Act 1918 when conversations always mention how women won the right to vote, approx 8 million. They always forget to say the same Act gave approximately 5.5 million men and also hundreds of thousands of men died in WW1 without ever having a vote and had no say in not going to war without sever detriment to themselves. The Suffragette Movement would give these "cowardly" men white Dove feathers if they didn't go. Did they volunteer front line services themselves? Of course not. Also soicety did have set expectations of behaviour and appearance for women but it also had the same of men and of harsh working environments. I add statistics on male rape, male sexual abuse, male domestic violence and male victims of crime. I quite often get blinkered vision and self denial of these facts because the media and society are concerned about highlighting and speaking for womens equality only. I believe in equality, freedom of choice and expression for all.

 11 Ways a Man is Successful - 24th December 2017.

An interesting article that I think does not demean men but simply implies you are still a man showing compassion. Item one could be better worded but I read it as not walking away from a job that costs your soul but simply swap jobs. There is more to life than a stressful job just because you feel the need to satisfy society with lifestyle and expectations. I walked from a pressure job for me, into a world of self employment within gardens. My wife and I still have cars and holidays just not the flamboyant talking pieces at parties and gatherings. We dine out and attend theaters, just avoid Micheline style and shows that do not appeal to us regardless of critic comments on the show itself. No doubt some in society demote us for this but that is their problem.
